  1. Best Modular Solution on the Market!

Posted by Mike on 17th Jan 2017

After looking at Snap Safe, Zanotti and SecureIT options I chose the Dakota Interloc-XP. After assembling it, I REALLY love the full 180 degree door and that was a major factor in not choosing the snap safe. Cost of both the Zanotti and Snap safe was also an issue. While the Secure-IT solution was cheaper, I also store valuables and decided to put some copies of paperwork like Wills into the Dakota given its fire rating. While I am very happy with the Dakota, it is made in China and there are some minor nits that I have. Each of the boxes had grit on the felt wrapped shelves, I guess from the particle board or gypsum board that was used. I had to clean each shelf piece thoroughly. The door also had white markings from where the Gypsum board was slightly crushed and I had to wash that clean. The ceiling panel was a very tight fit and the upper back panel fit, bit not really flush. I can see that if I were to move the safe more than once or twice, the panels might not fit so well over time. But overall, this is an AWESOME safe and I am very happy with my choice.

  2. Great Item epsecially for non-ground level install

Posted by Steve K on 13th Aug 2015

I have purchased this product and have it installed and in use on second story house. its exactly what I wanted for secure storage. Few Minor things for those who purchase, when installing interior panels make sure that the panels are seated on the ledge on bottom and Rear of safe, I would suggest a small "L" bracket be installed tying the side panels to the top/bottom of safe to prevent them from moving and falling into the interior of the shell of the safe. Also the "center" support you may want to use "L" bracket to stabilize and prevent center support from shifting causing your 1/2 size selves from falling.

Installing electrical or humidifier lines is easy and simple just slide the bottom panel up to access the hole in the rear of the safe.

When putting together make sure you look at the pieces carefully "bottom"
of safe should have 4 holes in the floor plate my install the labels were wrong and some were upside down. Also make sure the "back of safe the hole should be on bottom left not top right.

minor issues but pain to unbolt things and switch them when your 90% done.

  3. Decent Deal

I bought this as an upgrade from little cheap K-Marter. I originally saw it presented by a vendor at an outdoors show and thought it would be a good idea for portability reasons. Was planning on buying it from that vendor and trucking it on my own. However, just before I was ready to do that, was reviewing the specs and checked out the link at Gun Safes America and was extremely happy to learn it was the same price and included shipping. Ordered it, got it a couple days later in good shape. Said it would take 30 minutes to put together but took more like a couple of hours but not a big deal. The only problem I had was the included CD didn't work. Not a big deal as the same thing is on the website at Dakota Safes and on YouTube but will probably call them and ask for another as a backup.

  4. Best thing since Toasted Bread

Posted by Black Beard on 12th Jun 2014

Built it yourself with little to no trouble. This is a Do It Yourself project every man could appreciate. I have a "special" place built in my house that I neglected to put a safe in when I was building and the after thought was, "damn, I need a safe in there" the fact that this safe could be put together made it perfect for what I needed. I looked all over and found a few that you could put together. This one seemed to have better features than all the others and the price was good. The customer service was great and shipping was simple. Thanks

  5. Assemble Anywhere!

Posted by Charles on 17th Apr 2014

I have been looking for a gun safe to go down in my basement for quite some time now. The problem was, my stairs are very steep and there is a turn going down into the basement. Anything big enough for all my guns is to bulky and heavy to take down those steps. I had a small safe I bought that was nothing more than a glorified school locker. The dakota interlock xp gun safe fit the bill. It arrived in pieces that were easy to take down the stairs and assemble. The door was the heaviest piece and was a little more difficult to manage. But, we got it. The instructional video was helpful but it took longer than the 30 minutes they suggest and the interior panels were a pain, but eventually fit. All and all, this was the perfect solution for me. If you have a hard to reach place up or down stairs and want a bigger safe, then this is the gun safe to get.

  6. A Practical Solution

Posted by Jess on 25th Mar 2014

I wanted a safe for my guns but there was no way my floors would support a heavy safe and I didn't want a flimsy metal gun cabinet. Some of my friends have placed massive safes in their garages but local law enforcement told me that thieves have been known to load them up and drive off. I wanted a safe in my basement but the stairs wouldn't hold the weight. After searching the internet, I discovered safes which could be assembled on site. The prices with shipping were too high. Finally I found Dakota Safe Company and after reviewing the product info, I ordered the Interloc-XP. Shipping was included in the price. The office staff was superb to work with and shipping was quick. Contrary to the assembly description of 30 minutes, it took about 3 hours to assemble. Lot's of nuts and bolts and a heavy door frame which required another person's help to position. I made several repeat visits to the instructional DVD. After completing the assembly, the only thing left to fuss about is the gold dial. My aging eyes would prefer a black dial with white numerals. All in all, I'm pleased with the safe. It meets my needs.
